In the US, the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) has announced that a new crypto task force has been set up to tackle cryptocurrency regulations in a new light.
Under Trump, the new task force will develop a new, fairer regulatory framework for cryptocurrency assets.
Paul Atkins, who previously held positions within the crypto industry, is set to take over Mark Uyeda, the current acting chairperson of the SEC.
SEC switches its tone on crypto
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is prepared to evaluate cryptocurrencies as an asset now that Gary Gensler has officially been outed.
Acting chairperson, Mark Uyeda, announced the formation of a crypto task force to help streamline crypto regulations, making them fairer and easier to understand.
Trump plans to allow the crypto industry to grow and expand by removing needlessly strict regulations that the former SEC applied on cryptos such as Ripple’s XRP.
Coinbase and Kraken also suffered under the old SEC as Gary Gensler believed the exchanges had broken and skirted rules to try and get ahead.
In the announcement, Commissioner Hester Peirce will lead the “agency-wide effort”.
From the announcement:
“To date, the SEC has relied primarily on enforcement actions to regulate crypto retroactively and reactively, often adopting novel and untested legal interpretations along the way.
Clarity regarding who must register, and practical solutions for those seeking to register, have been elusive.
The result has been confusion about what is legal, which creates an environment hostile to innovation and conducive to fraud. The SEC can do better.”

Trump wants the best for Bitcoin, crypto
Before taking office Trump promised that AI and cryptocurrencies would receive meaningful attention and investment whether that be monetary or regulatory.
On January 22, 2025, Trump announced a $500 billion funding check to The Stargate Project, an AI project led by Oracle and Sam Altman’s OpenAI that aims to revolutionize artificial intelligence.
In crypto, Trump plans to de-regulate the cryptocurrency industry to a point where growth can be made easier without bureaucratic intrusions or surprising legal battles between the state and crypto companies. So far, it seems Trump has stuck to his word.
This month, crypto investors are expecting new executive orders on Bitcoin and crypto along with more hints towards a BTC strategic reserve.
