Internet rumors suggest that Rockstar’s GTA 6 will involve real-world crypto or Bitcoin in some way.

Releasing in 2025, Grand Theft Auto IV will include a fully-realized online world similar to GTA 5’s GTA Online where players are able to create businesses and earn in-game currency.

The inclusion of cryptocurrencies in GTA 6 would be a first for a mainstream video game such as Grand Theft Auto, but the chances are pretty slim.

Could GTA VI include crypto and Bitcoin?

Rumors about cryptocurrencies being included in GTA VI have spurred from online communities and web forums about GTA VI’s online potential.

Despite the rumors, Rockstar has not confirmed that cryptocurrencies would be used in any way in GTA 6 with the majority of online discussions saying that cryptocurrencies would not work in a GTA Online environment in the first place and that Rockstar does not allow real money to be made by playing their games.

On Crypto Twitter, a few large accounts, such as Gordon, have shared misinformation about GTA VI and the inclusion of digital currencies, including crypto, citing GTA V’s online communities, businesses, and in-game use of currencies.

Making real money, or crypto, in GTA V Online has been achieved through loopholes and abuse of in-game dynamics via GTA Online servers. More legitimate ways of making real money, or crypto, by playing GTA V Online can be done by becoming a server owner and charging players an entry fee.

Other ways include charging for server-specific in-game items and programming custom servers that can be sold or have charged invitations.

GTA 6 and Rockstar’s opinion on crypto

In conclusion, there is a very low chance that cryptocurrencies will be included in GTA IV or any GTA-related game in the future due to Rockstar’s internal policies. In the past, Rockstar has banned NFTs and crypto from role-play servers.

In-game inclusions of cryptocurrencies may be a reality, such as in-game Bitcoin or in-game cryptocurrency trading, similar to GTA V’s in-game stock market.

For Rockstar, introducing real cryptocurrencies into one of the gaming industry’s biggest releases would prove risky and could create unnecessary problems.
