If you’ve been watching crypto YouTube content lately, you’ve probably noticed spam coins appearing all over the comment sections.
These comments often say things like:
“Get XAI79A, XAI320K, and XAI560K now! I just made 100x in 1 month! Everyone needs to know this!”
What are these xAI coins?
All these coins are using the hype of the xAI project, which is a company working on building artificial intelligence to accelerate human scientific discovery. The project is led by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.
Most of these coins have websites showing you massive returns or presale tokens with a countdown timer to make it look super urgent and limited.

What happens if I try to buy these coins?
If you attempt to buy these coins, you’ll be redirected to a page where you can choose a cryptocurrency to swap. Commonly accepted coins for these swaps are BTC, USDT, ETH, ADA, DOGE, and XRP. Once you initiate a swap, a popup will ask you to send the amount to a specified address, after which you’re supposed to receive the supposed xAI coin.
In some cases, these sites may ask you to connect your MetaMask or Ledger wallet. Doing so can give them full access to your wallet, putting your funds at serious risk.

Is this a Rug Pull?
A rug pull typically happens when developers abandon a project after collecting assets, leaving token holders with worthless coins.
However, this scam is much worse than a rug pull. First, you’re unlikely to receive the “xAIWhatever” coin at all. Second, if you grant access to your MetaMask or Ledger wallet, scammers can steal all your crypto assets!
In some reported cases, scammers won’t act immediately after gaining access. Instead, they wait for months or even years before withdrawing all the funds from your wallet.
How to protect yourself?
If you’re unsure about a coin, always look for proof of its legitimacy. Only purchase coins through verified exchanges, and check trustworthy sources like CoinMarketCap or similar platforms. These sites often include a Security section in the coin details, which can provide additional information about its safety.
Tips to stay safe from crypto scams projects:
- Research the coins: Verify legitimacy on trusted platforms like CoinMarketCap.
- Use verified exchanges: Only purchase from reputable platforms.
- Avoid wallet connections: Never connect MetaMask or Ledger to untrusted sites.
- Ignore urgency tactics: Scams often use countdowns to pressure you.
- Verify YouTube channels: Double-check if the YouTuber is legitimate.
- Report scams: Flag suspicious comments or channels to platforms.
- Stay informed: Learn about common crypto scams to protect yourself.

Things are getting worse!
With the rise of AI tools, scammers are now creating fake YouTube channels using deepfake videos of popular crypto YouTubers to promote these fraudulent coins. Always verify the legitimacy of the YouTuber and report fake channels if you encounter them.
Why isn’t YouTube blocking these comments?
YouTube claims its systems automatically detect and delete spam. However, these bulk auto-post systems use multiple accounts to evade detection, making the comments appear similar to legitimate ones, with the only noticeable difference being the inclusion of the scam coin name.
Another challenge is the massive volume of content uploaded to YouTube daily. With millions of videos and comments posted every day, YouTube’s automated systems struggle to catch every spam comment. Although YouTube encourages users to report these types of comments, the response time for removal is extremely slow to prevent damage
Final warning: Be careful!
Avoid clicking on suspicious links or connect your Ledger or MetaMask wallet to unknown websites. These spam projects are increasingly spreading on youtube, and many people have reported losing hundreds of thousands of dollars to these scams.
