Algorand 4.0 staking rewards upgrade enters betanet
As confirmed by Algorand Foundation, Algorand’s 4.0 upgrade including ALGO’s new staking rewards system has entered betanet. It’s to be expected that once everything is confirmed to be running smoothly in betanet, then the upgrade will be live on testnet.
The Algorand community has long awaited the staking reward update thanks to its innovative new staking rules which are unique in the market.
With ALGO’s new staking system, stakers will be able to claim rewards in real-time, transfer their ALGO without any lock-up periods and validators can use their laptops for setting up nodes thanks to Algorand’s sustainable consensus mechanism.
The upgrade dubbed ‘Algorand 4.0’ will also bring a range of new features and updates to the Algorand network, including enhanced zero-knowledge proof support, enhanced security, MiMC opcode, which makes it easier for the creation of ZK proof applications.
ALGO 4.0: The future
The Algorand community believes that bringing back staking rewards was one of the best choices for the future prosperity of the network, heading into 2025.

According to the Algorand Foundation, ALGO holders were not staking their tokens due to Algorand’s altruistic staking model which offered no incentives to stakers.
As a result, the network became less decentralized and participation in the blockchain was becoming an issue with so few users helping to secure it.Â
With Algorand 4.0, investors from other networks may join in the ALGO network and participate in its generous staking system which will hopefully bring more life to Algorand’s decentralized financial ecosystem and dApps.Â
